Social Networkers Choose Radio Over Television...

Edison Research says "we are truly witnessing a sea change in how mainstream consumers communicate." Edison is referring to the phenomenon of social networking. Among some of Edison's findings in a recent study show that social networking has doubled from 24% to 48% from 2008 to 2010. "Even more remarkable, as social networking has entered the mainstream, it has also quickly become not just an occasional diversion but a habitual part of American life." 30% of users that check their sites and services several times a day, has gone from 18 million to 39 million in one year...

More women than men are social networkers - 57% to 43%. Although all age groups are represented, most of the women are 18-34, the demo that radio screams for. "Americans with "the social habit" are watching significantly less traditional television, but potentially consuming (and sharing) more "video" through alternative means. Pandora is already the dominant online audio brand with frequent social networkers. These consumers' propensity for posting status updates and other content, combined with Pandora's recent movies to integrate with Facebook, will likely position Pandora as the dominant music discovery brand online." ...

Not good news for terrestrial radio, that last part, and if you haven't yet integrated Facebook and Twitter into your website or opened an account - do it now. The social network tipping point for me was when TV, never first in anything, jumped all over it...
