Talk Radio Needs To Tone Down The Vitriol...

When Ed Schultz from MSNBC's The Ed Show advocated the return of the Fairness Doctrine in order to regulate talk radio, people yawned. Who the devil is Ed Schultz and why would we care about him? FYI: Ed Schultz is a liberal yakker whose definition of the talk radio that he would like to see regulated is conservative talk radio. Schultz is assuming that conservatives blindly follow radio hosts by being easily manipulated with "low information". Well the truth is that too many conservative listeners do follow blindly, but most don't. The same is true for liberal listeners. The majority of liberal listeners are not petitioning Congress for the return of the Fairness Doctrine. Ed Schultz's desire to regulate talk radio is easily dismissed for being self-serving. The vitriol being spewed on conservative talk radio is not so easily dismissed...

When Barack Obama was asked by Harry Smith, co-anchor of the CBS Early Show if he was aware of the extreme terms some use to describe him as "socialist" or "Nazi", the president replied, "It happens often when you've got an economy that is making people more anxious, and people are feeling like there is a lot of change that needs to take place. But that's not the vast majority of Americans. I think the vast majority of Americans know that we're trying hard, that I want what's best for the country." He also said "That when you listen to Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, it's pretty apparent, and it's troublesome, but keep in mind that there have been periods in American history where this kind of vitriol comes out." ...

I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle of the president's statement. The vast majority of Americans only care about their own personal needs. They also don't acknowledge that the president is trying hard and most don't care either. I believe that the vast majority feel that his health plan is being force-fed and they don't like it one bit. I also feel that the vitriol being spewed by the conservative right incites too many people to commit acts of violence. I am for free speech, against the return of the Fairness Doctrine but also against the spewing of hateful rhetoric. I think it's time for conservative talk radio to tone it down a bit...
