When asked for their top two picks for growth potential, 67% of the respondents chose mobile phone apps while 46% opted for social networking in a recent Inside Radio Survey. The rest of the survey showed audio streaming (29%), station websites (23%), online video streams (21%) and trailing the field and dead last - HD Radio at 8%. What's interesting to note is how far down station websites and audio streaming potential have dropped. If you're a radio station without either, you're out of business or soon will be. In this survey, online video streaming is just 2 points behind station websites and 8 percent behind audio streaming. And how about the bold respondents (8%) who actually chose HD Radio as one of their two choices for potential???
Some respondent comments speak volumes: "Station websites are great, but stations on iPhones are easier", "We believe station websites have the most growth potential but must be promoted much, much more." Then there's this comment on social networks, "Facebook is already a favorite of most adults so if they are already going there. Get them to friend you and poof." ...
I agree with that last comment about Facebook, Twitter and other social networks but to this day, I have only seen a select few who are wise enough to tweet about their radio station to what has become their target audience...
