Taking technology to a simpler level...

Apple is about to set the technology industry on its ear with its new iPhone which drops June 29th at your friendly, neighborhood AT&T (formerly Cingular) mobile outlet (an exclusive deal between the two giants was signed in January). This baby will do everything except brush your teeth. Now, along comes a company in Seattle called Melodeo that will give you music on any cellphone without downloading. All you supply are your ears...

Melodeo is offering a new mobile music service, out this week that will allow you to access your own music library using your own cell phone. Here's how it works: you send Melodeo (I'm not sure where the emphasis goes on the syllables) a copy of your iTunes master playlist and they will match your list using their database. Kinda like an all-request weekend where you're 'playin' what they're sayin' as long as you have the song. There are some other limitations. This service, called NuTsie (an anagram of iTunes) won't work yet with all carriers like Verizon and Alltel, but will soon work on those in addition to BlackBerrys and Windows Mobile handsets. This, on the surface looks like a good deal providing: 1) Their database is large enough (and) 2) They provide total compatibility with all cell phones but I have a better idea...

The solution for a totally free mobile music service is in the hands of Dr. Jonathan Lippin, my dentist. Little does he know it, until he reads this, but I offer this challenge to the best dentist in New York: come up with a music service that can be transmitted through my fillings. I'm hard-wired for that and it's already paid for...

Harvey Mednick comments on yesterday's feature on Radio lagging behind TV in their use of the Internet: "You don't have to tell all of us who labored at OnRadio about how little radio understands about the synergistic/revenue opportunities between it and the Internet.
