The Name Game...

"Lincoln!: Lincoln, Lincoln bo Bincoln, Bonana fanna fo Fincoln, Fee fy mo Mincoln...Lincoln". No, not that name game. The name game that might replace real estate and the stock market as the best investment you can make - buying domain names and then leasing them out...

If you have a blog or website you can lease your domain name as I do. Just yesterday the big boys who buy names, held court at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan with thousands of domain names up for grabs. For a cover charge of $2,000 you can become a bidder but you better be prepared to pay 6 figures or more for a good domain name. Some recent domain names and what they went for:
  • creditcheck.com=$3 million...
  • Seniors.com=$1.8 million...
  • bald.com=$400,000...

The all-time champion domain name, porn.com went for $9.5 million earlier in the year. Lest you worry that there's no room for you to become a player, there are still some choice domain names left, like: naked.com, gin.com and coed.com which requires an unlisted minimum. If you sell produce, cantaloupe.com has an asking price of $10,000 to $25,000. The licensing services (plural) are regulated by the International Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers...
