Boz Scaggs celebrates his 61st birthday today. William Royce Scaggs, born in the Buckeye state of Ohio on June 8, 1944 was raised in Oklahoma and Texas. It was in Dallas that Boz hooked up with Steve Miller's group, the Marksmen in the 50s. He would later rejoin Miller with the Steve Miller Band in the 60s.

In 1968 Boz started his solo career but it was in the 70s before Boz would have his first hit, make that his first two hits, "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle". Both tunes were included in his hit LP, "Silk Degrees".

The Year Boz broke loose we had a Ford in the White House and were flocking to see "Rocky". On TV we had "Happy Days" but no happiness for Patty Hearst who was found quilty of bank robbery. Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford starred in "All The President's Men", exposing a president and making "Deep Throat" a mystery until last week.

Commentary...

More than the weather is heating up in New York. In addition to a pre-summer heat wave with temperatures tickling the low 90s, there's also a heat wave brewing in the Apple and that's the emergence of the "other" baseball team. Following another masterpiece by Pedro Martinez with 40,000 witnesses in attendance it's the Mets that have replaced the Yankees in the headlines. While the Mets are just one game out of first place, the Yankees are just about as close to last place as first place. It's not just the weather that's sizzling, it's the "other" team, the team in Flushing who just might be flushing the Yankees out of the spotlight after what seems like centuries of pinstripe dominance...
