Rocky Mountain High - a run for the ages...

The Colorado Rockies, a team no one knew east of the Rockies until now, are on a phenomenal run. After sweeping their way into the World Series last night, the Rockies joined only three other teams that have won at least 20 of 21 games after September 1 since 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Last night they won the 21st of their last 22 games. The last National League team to do what they've done at any point of the season was the 1936 New York Giants...

The team that's making this a Rocktober to remember has become the 5th major league team to go from last place to the World Series in consecutive years, joining the 1991 Braves, '91 Twins, '93 Phillies and '98 Padres. They become the first team to sweep the Division and LCS rounds and are one game away from the most consecutive playoff victories. They will have to wait until the World Series opener next Wednesday, October 24th to accomplish that feat. It remains to be seen whether that long layoff has any affect on the hottest team in sports since the Patriots won 21 games in a row a few years back...

Should the Rockies win the World Series they will become the 7th different team to win the fall classic since the Yankees three-peat ('98-'00). Should Cleveland beat Boston in the AL, it would guarantee it. The Red Sox, should they win the WS would break that streak since they won in 2004 and the Indians haven't won since they owned Manhattan island...

If you think Colorado is this years' Cinderella team, you would be wrong. They're way beyond that. I would make them the World Series favorite no matter who they play. It's only fitting that we pay tribute to the Colorado Rockies with: John Denver and "Rocky Mountain High": http://youtube.com/watch?v=aWU8XWksg_0 ...

Shocking news in the summer Arbitron as David Hinckley in today's New York Daily News reports that WLTW (Lite-FM) was knocked out of the Number One spot by WHTZ (Z-100). This is the first time in what seems like a century that Lite has been replaced at the top. WRKS (Kiss) was second. WCBS-FM moved up to a tie for 6th. In the all-important morning drive daypart WINS stayed at the top...For those wondering what Shadoe Stevens has been up to, Shadoe sends along this video so you can see for yourself: http://video.yahoo.com/video/play?vid=1242020&fr=&cache=1 .
