WCBS-FM is still Jacking it as of this writing and CBS Radio is still doing their best Marcel Marceau imitation but apparently CBS-FM will change back to an oldies format some time this week. The rumors began on Friday and quickly took on a life of their own. I got wind of it from two different sources and the more I checked on the rumor, the more it looked real...
We live in a world where nothing stays a secret for very long. All rumors have a source. If you hear enough of them there usually is some substance to it. Such is the case with CBS-FM. The tipping point is when: 1) there is no confirmation or denial, or...2) there is a denial. You can bet if it's one or the other, it's a mortal lock. The speculation is that the format will feature many of the jocks that were at the station 2 years ago when they were Jacked from the airwaves. The music will feature more contemporary oldies from the 70s and 80s...
CBS-FM will never return to the days of being #1 but they will improve their revenue stream dramatically and will do cartwheels if they can return to the top 10, whatever the demographics. CBS Radio's experiment with the Jack format in New York was a disaster. It's time to turn the page, make some money and make lots of people happy...
