If you freaked out last year when we hit 666, the devil's numbers then you should be doing cartwheels this Saturday when we roll 7's. Marriages should hit record numbers on 7-07-07 for those looking for a lifetime of marital bliss and how many superstitious punters will be playing everything wearing the number 7??? Stuck for a lottery number? Not on Saturday. The number seven has been considered lucky going way back to biblical times...
Those insisting that we're melting like the wicked witch of the west (calling Al Gore, calling Al Gore) are jumping all over Saturday's triple 7 date too. Live Earth is "a monumental music event that will bring together more than 2 billion people to raise awareness about global warming. With 24 hours of music across 7 continents and performances by more than 150 of the world's top musicians, Live Earth will engage, connect and inspire individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve the climate crisis." The preceding message, brought to you by Live Earth, The Concerts For A Climate In Crisis...
Oh, while you're at it, better check the name of your local 7-Eleven. Over the weekend 7-Eleven Inc. turned a dozen stores into Kwik-E-Marts as part of a campaign to hype the July 27th (there's that number again) opening of "The Simpsons Movie"...
Not everyone kvells at the mere mention of the number seven. The Chinese associate "degrees" of luck according to how a number is pronounced. Eight, whose Chinese name rhymes with words for prosperity and wealth is considered lucky. The Beijing Olympics, will open next year at 8 p.m. on August 8, 2008. The Chinese don't live their lives behind the 8-ball. Next year is their year...

"Happy Trails" to ABC and GMA movie critic Joel Siegel, 63, who passed away after a long battle with colon cancer over the weekend. Joel was originally hired to combat the success of Gene Shallit, the "Today Show" movie critic. Facially he was a younger look-a-like version of Shallit and did quite well locally before moving over to the network. Those that knew Joel, loved him for his cheerfulness both on-screen and off and for being just a regular guy...George J. Capalbo, who started the same day I started at WRKO in the 60s and was the chief engineer and chief architect of the automation we used on "ARKO", WRKO-FM, sends this e-mail: "I read your blog every day and am amazed that you find the time to accomplish all that you do. Your references to Internet Radio are particularly interesting to me, since my son has a small software company that is specializing in Internet broadcasting. If you are interested in learning more you may e-mail him. His company is Backbone Networks Corp." Apple recently did an article referring to George Capalbo Jr. For those interested, his website is: www.backbone.com ...And George Sr.: the check is in the mail...Paul Power who attended a party in Kennebunkport (ME) over the weekend tells us about the security surrounding the Bush compound for George W.'s meeting with Russian leader Putin: "Thousands of demonstrators marched by the compound, all Anti-Bush but peaceful, looking like hippies from the 60s. Meanwhile on the water side were all these secret service boats continuously patrolling back and forth, some with guns on them, interspersed with all the pleasure boats and yachts. It reminded me a bit of "M*A*S*H". You could see all the TV sound trucks and a cop stationed there so you couldn't drive in, but could walk in. I also came upon 20 or more secret service guys in their black suits just walking along the road. Kind of a strange thing to see in person but I never saw Bush". Interesting report Paul. Thanks for the update...
