Nano Nano...

I have not succumbed to the portability of a laptop but the high percentage of people who swear by them will be happy to hear about a discovery that could revolutionize the length of battery use. CNET News reports that Stanford University researchers have found a way to give a conventional battery-powered laptop 40 hours of battery life, a huge improvement over the usual 4 hours. Assistant (not for long) professor Yi Cui and his Cardinal colleagues have come up with a way to use silicon nanowires to give rechargeable lithium ion batteries, used in laptops, iPods, video cameras and cell phones as much as 10 times more charge...

Cui says "it's not a small improvement, it's a revolutionary development." If you're expecting to purchase a piece of this revolution, you may have to wait awhile though. Cui expects the battery to be commercialized and available within "several years", pending testing. The secret behind this new finding is in a new type of silicon nanowire anode that does not fracture and there's nothing worse than a fractured nanowire!!!

While no price has been attached to this new discovery, such is not the case with Steven Jobs new laptop, just slightly bigger than a nanowire. Apple's new MacBook Air at 3 pounds, sells for $1,799 or $600 a pound. How many would you like???
