Grammys granted a pass thanks to a gift from the writers...

The best thing about the interim agreement to allow the 50th Grammy Awards to proceed February 10th sans pickets is that all the stars will attend. The show will go on without disruptions and there will be no adverse effect on record sales following the event. It is said that the Dixie Chicks sold 100,000 additional albums last year after winning in that category. The last thing we need now is worse record sales than we already have...

The writers union feels a kinship between their ranks and performers although some of the artists will make 5 to 10 times what writers make. Both sides want a bigger piece of the pie when it comes to digital rights. So the Grammys won't suffer the same fate as the Golden Globes, awarded to imaginary winners from a podium. I still think they should have run fake applause and had a red carpet leading to the podium with clips of previous awards. That would have been funny, instead of 'what if they held a Golden Globes Award Show and no one showed up?' We found out...

The Grammys get a pass but the Oscars wont. The writers guild has declined a waiver for the Academy Awards on February 24th. You can bet on the strike ending before that happens...

Commentary:

In addition to the Patriots being favored in Super Bowl XLII, they've been pictured as the bad guys because of Spygate but mostly because they are the best. The New York media has been especially vicious which makes this Patriots fan want a decisive win for the Pats over the Giants this Sunday to shut the media up. In addition to the venom being written and spewed on sports radio and even TV newscasts, I wanted to point out a couple of favorable articles written by sports writers Hank Gola of the New York Daily News and Jay Greenburg of the New York Post. The headline of Gola's piece over the weekend was: After missing '72 Dolphins, Patriot perfection would be somethin' to see. In his story Gola states that 'an appreciation of their season would be in order, should they 'reign supreme'. Greenburg calls the Patriots the Team For The Ages, should they win. As for the viciousness, don't get me wrong, the media is entitled to whatever they write and I understand being a 'homer' and all that but give the team that's 18-0 a little credit guys...
