The eye is on Google while the dog wags his tail...

We used to be 'wired for sound' or just plain 'wired'. Not anymore. Today we're 'wireless' but certainly not clueless. Google has announced it's entering the wireless phone generation and will develop new software technologies aimed at turning cellphones into powerful mobile computers. All of this is designed to make it easier to use the Internet on the go. The phones would run on software provided by Google which would be cheaper and easier to customize. Those benefiting would be the Open Handset Alliance, forged between Google and companies like Motorola, Samsung, T-Mobile, Sprint, China Mobile, Qualcomm and Intel. The group expects to start selling the Google-powered phones in the second half of 2008...

At the same time of the Google announcement comes the latest achievement of Sirius Satellite Radio which sent me an e-mail ad that features their two new radios. You don't have to be a 'heel' to own a Stiletto 2, just rich. The new Stiletto 2, which would have been a great name for a new Gillette razor, combines a Sirius radio with an MP3 which, as the ad says, will give you "the ultimate portable audio entertainment experience." It gave me chills just reading that. To get the same chills I just experienced, you can order the S2 for $329.99 or what you'll eventually pay for a flat-screen HD TV. It might sound like a sleek racing car but The Sportster 5 is a radio which can be used "in your home, boat, office or in additional vehicles." The S5 sells for a more affordable $169.99. Of course, on top of the prices for the new radios comes the monthly fee for listening to Sirius Satellite Radio...

No price is given for the new 'Google Phone' but the price of Google stock rose to $725.65, up 2% after the announcement. I don't know about you but faced with a choice of just audio or audio with video, I'll take the latter every time...
