Can relief be on the way???

Scott Muni used to love to tell the story about being asked at a radio panel, how he spells relief? I happened to be watching that panel as I told Scottso which brought a smile to his face but he continued to tell the story anyway. At the time, Scott was voicing that famous antacid spot that started out with, "How do you spell relief?" At the panel, Scott looked directly at the questioner as he spelled out "R-e-s-i-d-u-a-l"...

The two events that transpired in Washington yesterday won't result in residuals but if you live in an apartment you may catch a break with cable-TV bills. Whether you live in an apartment or house, you won't be taxed for using the Internet. Both events go hand-in-hand. Federal regulators ruled that cable companies can no longer sign exclusive pacts with building owners which should free up your choices of service providers. Time Warner (my provider), Cablevision and Comcast now have sole rights to provide service to apartment buildings. How do you spell monopoly? To be sure, cable companies opposed the FCC's decision to cancel out existing contracts. Verizon and AT&T, which are making a big push into TV cable service couldn't be happier...

The other thing that happened that helps all of us using the Internet is the president's signing of an extension on the Internet access taxes ban. With the impending Nov. 1 deadline, that ban will now extend for seven years. Read my lips: "No new taxes". This time it's for real. The ban prohibits assessing taxes on e-mail and instant messaging services "that are provided independently or not packaged with Internet access." ...

It was a good day for the home team...
