The first shoe drops...

With Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton, signed, sealed and delivered as Don Imus' replacements as morning show hosts on WFAN, the next question is when does the I-man resurface???

I've heard Esiason many times and he's good. Carton, his side-kick comes to the Fan from WKXW in New Jersey where he was to say the least - controversial. He was the jock that encouraged listeners to call in and report on illegal immigrants. I've never heard Carton but he's expected to add an edge to Esiason who can be testy himself as the sports expert among the two having gone from star quarterback to broadcaster. Esiason will continue to handle his other sports boradcasting commitments while doing the morning show...

With Mike (Greenburg) and Mike (Golic) making inroads across the street at WEPN (ESPN Radio) this should be quite a battle with the edge going to the Fan which has a superior signal at 660 as opposed to SportsRadio's 1050 frequency. Mike and Mike go together like "two straws in a coke" as the Moonglows once sang, it remains to be seen or heard to be more accurate, whether Esiason and Carton can work together, something they've never done...

Now that the first shoe has dropped, when will the second shoe drop, I-man??? Stand by...

The death of "The Scooter" a.k.a. Phil Rizzuto marks another death in a long run of heroes of our youth for many, including this blogger. Rizzuto is remembered by most for his Yankee broadcasts which began in 1957 but he was also a terrific shortstop, enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. It's hard to believe that he was the oldest living Hall of Famer but he was 89. Of all the people affected by his passing, former teammate and close friend Yogi Berra took it the hardest but still managed this Yogiism: "When I first came up to the Yankees, he was like a big - actually - small, brother to me. He's meant an awful lot to baseball and the Yankees and has left us with a lot of wonderful memories." R.I.P Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto...
