Pandora Just Keeps On Coming...

Who would have ever thought that a music service would dominate radio the way Pandora does? Many of the 157 million Pandora listeners call the service "radio" but we know the difference, don't we? There's full-service radio and then there's Pandora. What ever you call it, when it comes to ratings there's Pandora and then there's the rest of the league. Ando Media's Internet audio rankers for June shows Pandora #1 with 157 million listeners, up from 148 million. CBS Radio ranked second with 52 million, up from 50.6 million. Then there's Clear Channel with half the listeners of CBS, Citadel and the rest. The rest includes a surprise at #5...


For those that thought World Cup Soccer is not a major sport - think again. Number 5 in the June ranker was ESPN Radio, the network that carried what we call soccer but the world calls football. In terms of "Average Active Sessions" Pandora has gone from 391,000 in April to 403,000 in May and in June to 419,000. Those numbers are from the listing called "Domestic" (U.S. only) 6 am - 8 pm weekdays, internet radio listening's heaviest traffic time. The "Session Starts" listing shows Pandora jumping 9 million listeners, CBS Radio 1 million plus, with Clear Channel slipping .6 million...

The Jimi Hendrix Legacy: A 40th anniversary salute to Electric Lady Studios will be presented by the Audio Engineering Society on August 24 from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the studio, 52 West Eighth Street in Manhattan. The salute will be hosted by David K. Bialik, who promises to play one of Jimi Hendrix's guitars with his teeth - just kidding - but it will be an event to attend.
