Radio's Favorite Sport Is Rebranded And Back With A Bang...

No sport lends itself to radio better than baseball. The leisurely pace of the game is perfect for a leisurely medium. Baseball is timeless. It's also clock-less. It's the slowest played of all professional sports games. It's 162 games, each one giving time enough to read a Tolstoy book, watch a movie or drive 200 miles before the game is over. It's not a marathon, it's an eternity. It's also the first game we learned to play and we still love it even though it starts when it's cold and ends when it's colder. Baseball is still big business despite trailing football in popularity. All 30 Major League teams have local coverage and this season, Major League Baseball has rebranded it's national coverage of the game...

Major League Home Plate channel on XM Satellite Radio will now be known as MLB Network Radio and in addition to a new name, the channel will simulcast a number of MLB Network programs, including its nightly studio program MLB Tonight. The daytime lineup of talk programming will remain unchanged. The move expands the MLB Network brand beyond and separates it from the television network. It will give listeners an opportunity to sample MLB Network programming...

"When fans are in their cars and can't watch MLB Network on TV, they can tune into our programming on satellite radio" says Tony Petitti, president and CEO of MLB Network. "It's important to us to continue to raise awareness about MLB Network's programming and deep roster of on-air talent as we enter our second regular season on the air". MLB Network Radio remains on XM channel 175 and Sirius channel 210. The 2010 Major League Baseball season starts this Sunday night with a bang. The Yankees will defend their world championship against the Red Sox at Fenway Park...
