Music to run by...

The New York Daily News recently challenged their readers to suggest campaign theme songs for both Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani and here are some of their choices:

Clinton
Pro: "I Am Woman" (Helen Reddy), "You've Got A Friend" (Roberta Flack version), "Bring The Boys Home" (Freda Payne), "We're Not Gonna Take It" (Twisted Sister), "Just in Time" (no particular singer)...
Con: "The Bitch Is Back" (Elton John), "Fat Bottomed Girls" (Queen)...

Giuliani
Pro: "(We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet" (Blues Magoos), "I'm Gonna Win" (Foreigner), "My Way" (Frank Sinatra)...
Con: "The Howdy Doody Song"...

Either
Pro: "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll) (AC/DC)...
Con: "I'm A Loser" (Beatles)...

The candidates take campaign theme songs seriously. Bill Clinton won the White House with "Don't Stop" by Fleetwood Mac. George W. Bush switched to Billy Ray Cyrus' "We The People" after Tom Petty and John Mellancamp ordered his campaign to stop using their songs. An expert from Baruch College, Doug Muzzio says "the music, in a sense, crystallizes the campaign theme. Countless hours go into testing it with focus groups but the bottom line is who the hell knows how much effect it has on the votes?"...

Hillary Clinton takes it seriously and claims more than 60,000 votes have been cast and the top contenders are: U2's "City Of Blinding Lights", KT Tunstall's "Suddenly I See" and Smash Mouth's cover of the Monkees' "I'm A Believer". Giuliani doesn't take it seriously and hasn't asked for anybody's help in choosing a theme song. How about getting Sanjaya to record the theme song from "Rudy"? Sanjaya's not busy these days...
My thanks to Corky Siemaszko of the New York Daily News for his information...
