When 'nothing from nothing' doesn't always leave nothing...

Billy Preston may have had it right most of the time but not in the case of the comedy series that debuted on this date in 1990. The show about, well, nothing, aired the pilot for the series in July of '89 and was placed in NBC-TV's summer lineup on the last day of May in1990 when it was called "The Seinfeld Chronicles"...

The show struggled to gain acceptance but gradually started its climb in the Neilsen ratings. In the 1992-'93 season, "Seinfeld" was the 25th most watched show. By the '93-'94 season it was 3rd and in the '94-'95 season, "Seinfeld" was #1...

The secret to "Seinfeld's" success was great writing and a brilliant cast assembled by Jerry Seinfeld. They didn't come any wackier than Michael Richards as Kramer. Jason Alexander was perfect as George Costanza and Julia Louis-Dreyfus played the pretty but quirky Elaine to a tee...

The show aired its last episode on May 14, 1998 and 76 million viewers were there to say goodbye. Commercials reached Super Bowl proportions for the finale with 30-second commercials selling at $1.7 million, proving that 'nothing from nothing' doesn't always leave nothing...
